Chicago 3D – Progress next to Millenium Park

Novembro 2, 2012

Most of these models at Randolph street are from the most recognizable buildings of Chicago since they face Millennium Park. Here are then the latest models on that area I’ve made:

Soon I will be doing Aqua Tower, a pretty nice challenge!

“Models with Google Earth” – Preview of |Courtrack Place|

Outubro 22, 2012

During one of my architectural inspirational tours around New York I found a place where a building set in there would provide a really good view over Manhattan. As imagination demands no price, I decided this building should be the tallest in New York (and even in the whole USA) in spite of being giving me more work than I was hoping for, I decided you should see a preview of it:

COURTRACK PLACE – (NEW YORK, NY) | 2100FT/640M | 143FL)

https://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&hq=&ll=40.70642,-73.968733&z=18 (building site at Google Earth)

It’s basically a mix between residential (360.000m2 / 3.875.010sq.ft) and office (75.000m2 / 807.000sq.ft). It’s divided in phases: 1st (308,5M / 1012FT) at 77 floors; 2nd (437M / 1434FT) at 109 floors; 3rd (528,1M / 1733FT) at 132 floors; 4th (572,1M / 1877FT); 5th – spire (68mt). The building reaches a total of 153 floors, 143 habitable and 10 underground parking.

[Dica/Tip] Site/Blog: “Aviação sem Noção”

Outubro 15, 2012

CavokSky – Blog

For those who are fond of aviation and are looking for a light but interesting and fun aviation blog, I announce and suggest you a visit (or more!) to http://www.cavoksky.com/ .

The title of the page is “Aviação sem Noção”, which directly translated means “Non-sense Aviation” due of their aviation jokes, but make no mistake: they also post very interesting stuff! (if you are an aviation enthusiastic even better!)

“3 Models with Google Earth” – Set 3

Outubro 13, 2012

Following the compilation set of buildings I’ve designed these last days, there we have another 3! In case you haven’t read the previous posts, I decided to integrate my models in real locations so each time one looks at the place in real life it would imagine how the building would fit in there. These are somehow basic but challenging models to gain some skills to get back to my major project (which can be found some pages ago in this blog): Chicago 3D. So let’s see these 3 now!

Built from 1973 to 1990, suffering several interruptions since and due the April 25th revolution, it became the tallest building in the Azores. It has 21 floors, and reaches a (probable) maximum height of 295ft / 90m. This tower is called Torre Solmar and here it is a picture of it (photo by José Borges)Image

Why am I writing about this tower? Well, for a place like Ponta Delgada, where besides this tower the next tallest building reaches a height of only 8/10 floors, an even taller building in this city would be a total surprise. This way, I decided to do so. It’s located near the city’s main avenue, it has gorgeous views all over the place and you can directly see the airplanes approaching the city’s airport right above you.

ATLANTIS CONDOMINIUM – (PONTA DELGADA, PORTUGAL) | 335FT / 102M | 30FL)

-1th floor: parking garage | 1th floor: entrance hall + services | 2-29th floor: residential

As I have announced in the previous post, here it is a tower whose name, I think, matches its architectural style. What do you think?

INNOVATIO TOWER – (CHICAGO, IL) | 633FT / 193M (w/Spire: 892FT / 272M ) | 55FL

South sector: office residential apartments | West sector: offices | 55th floor: swimming pool

Situated close to Navy Pier, it’s a must for a great living! Why? First: you will have outstanding views over the city. Second: You will be in a most desirable place for a living with shopping  cinemas, other types of entertainment, paths for riding a bike or just walking, fields to play baseball. Third: You have the possibility of  having a full floor which will allow you not needing to worry about possible noisy neighbors.

PEARM DOUBLE – (CHICAGO, IL) | 840FT / 256M (w/Spire: 1050FT / 320M ) | 77FL)

-4,-1th floor: parking garage | 1-3rd floor: entrance hall and services | 4-73th floor: residential

“3 Models with Google Earth” – Set 2

Outubro 7, 2012

Are you ready for some more 3 models? Following Set 1 and in case you haven’t read the previous post, these “Set” posts are a compilation of buildings I’ve designed on real locations, having placed them with Google Earth. I decided to do so because a building this way has another way to be seen, it has a background. Let’s see them!

DOMUS TOWER – (LAS PALMAS, SPAIN) | 755FT / 230M | 50FL)
1-5th floor: shopping | 6-7th floor: Monopol movie theatres | 8-9th floor: mechanical storage | 10-25th floor: Canary Islands Department of Tourism offices | 26-50th floor: residential

And now ladies and gentlemen, the model I referred to in the previous post! I ask you to imagine you are an important business man/woman and you have an urgent meeting in Lake Point Area at Chicago.  Unfortunately you are at O’Hare Airport and it’s Chicago’s rush hour. Well, why don’t you just pick up an helicopter and land on the tower? Or if you happen to be in Evanston or even Milwaukee and there’s no helicopter, you can just pick up a boat and arrive to the meeting by the lake. A different building concept from all the others existing at the city!

SUPERMARE TOWER – (CHICAGO, IL | 1245FT / 380M / 75FL)

-3/-1st floor: boat access area | 1-4th floor: hall / services | 5-25th floor: Chicago Stock Exchange offices | 26-30th floor: Chicago S.E. self residential apartments | 31-51th floor: banking offices | 52-56th floor: banking apartments | 57-60th floor: swimming pool, recreational area | 61-75th floor: Chicago Department of Aviation offices | Over 75th floor: swimming pool, 4 helipads, recreational area

RUDIATIS TOWER – (CHICAGO, IL | 1740FT / 530M [w/spire: 2065FT / 630M] | 117FL)

1-4th floor: shopping/services | 5-17th floor: Chicago Chamber of Commerce offices | 18-25th floor: Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Equador Consulates |26-63th floor: SOM Architecture offices | 64-115th floor: residential |116-117th floor: gymnasiums

(I’m sorry I haven’t texturized this model. Honestly? It’s been difficult to find a style I like to this model – either a cladding like Burj Khalifa’s (too shining maybe?) or an Art Deco cladding, to join modern-architecture-structure with an old-good-cladding?)

In the next post there will be a surprise – in an architectural sense of course – model. I’m just giving you a hint: imagine a mixture between Brutalistic and Modern Architecture and wait for it! Thanks for reading!

“3 Models with Google Earth” – Set 1

Outubro 6, 2012

Sometimes just making a building by itself isn’t so attractive, so I decided to create some buildings in real locations – using Google Earth to place them – to make things more interesting. Adding to that, a few technical details will make the process a bit nicer and this time the name of the towers will be in Latin. It’s up to you to tell me if it’s a good name to the building! So here they go!

UNDA TOWER (CHICAGO, IL | 787FT / 240M | 67FL)

1-5h floor: shopping | 6-20th floor: residential | 21-66th floor: Chicago Institute of Oceanography offices| 67th floor: swimming pool

Image

OSTENTUM TOWER (CHICAGO, IL | 1135FT / 346M | 96FL)

1-4th floor: services | 5-15th floor: banking offices| 16-95th floor: residential| 96th floor: mechanical storage

Image

 JUSTUM TOWER (BOSTON, MA | 1033FT / 315M | 76FL)

1-2nd floor: hall| 3-10th floor: attorney offices| 11-61th floor: justice offices| 62-76th floor: court rooms

For today that’s it. The next post will include more 3 models, one of them you will surely find quite interesting! Thanks for reading

Dubai Triumph Tower – 1151mt / 3779ft

Outubro 1, 2012

Since Dubai is becoming a bigger and bigger hub for architecture lovers, this is a model I’d like to see built in there to overpass the Burj Khalifa’s already impressive height. The idea is to start on 4 main basic square towers and then join them to a central one came to my mind in one second and hadn’t I written it down to the paper, I wouldn’t have remembered it later. So, a few technical details:

Top height (with spire): 1151m / 3779ft || Spire height: 219m / 718ft

Top floor height: 952 m / 3123ft || Floors: 225 (~4,2m|13.8ft/floor) || Observation deck: 219th floor

Areas:

Square towers (319m): 67.500m2*4= 270.000m2 / 2.906.260sq.ft

Central core tower: (290m): 48.300m2 / 516.668sq.ft

First phase (198m): 79.950m2 / 860.575sq.ft || Second phase (240m): 75.810m2 / 809.231sq.ft

Third phase (131m): 28.430m2 / 306.018sq.ft || To the top: 7.523m2 / 80.976sq.ft (decreases 6,64% in floor area each floor up) || Last 6 floors: 321m2 / 3.455sq.ft

Total building area: 510.334m2 / 5.493.190sq.ft || Mall area: 25.220m2 / 271.466sq.ft ||

Hall area: 10.145m2 / 109.200sq.ft

Total building+mall+hall area: 545.699m2 / 5.873.860sq.ft || Total terrain area: 82.000m2 / 882.641sq.ft

Total estimated cost to build: 2,49 bilions (US Dollars) or 9,14 bilions(UAE dirhams)

“And now, ladies and gentlemen, behold this wonder! The tallest building in the world AGAIN in Dubai!”
